Fencing Dragons Studios
2007 Show Schedule
Fencing Dragons Studios is pleased to present its 2007 Art Show Schedule. This list is subject to change, and will be updated as needed; non-personal appearances are marked with an asterisk. Please feel free to forward this list to anyone who might be interested. Some shows on the list are juried. The benefit of juried shows is that they guarantee all artwork is produced solely by the artists represented: there are no mass produced or resold items allowed. Also, at practically all juried shows, the artists are present. To contact me, please drop me a line at samantha@fencingdragons.com.

Los Angeles Storytelling Festival
November 2007
Valyermo Fall Festival at
Saint Andrews Abbey
September 29th and 30th
Saturday 9-7 Sunday 9-6
I'm very proud to announce I'll be in the Artist's Alley again this year. Two years agoI had the distinct honor of being the very first jewelry artist ever juried into the St Andrew's Abbey fine arts division. If you have never been to St Andrew's Abbey, it is quite a wonderful experience. It's worth the trip just to come and see the abbey grounds. You can indulge in their great food and drink by the beautiful lake. The monks sell their artwork and their produce grown right there at the abbey. They are famous for their olive oil. It's delicious, but you don't have to take my word for it. They have an olive oil tasting booth.
Here's some info from their web site:
Admission to the Festival is free. Parking is $5. For your convenience, follow the directions of the Boy Scouts. There are shuttles to serve you. Allow yourself at least 2 hrs to tour the Festival. Other questions? Go to the Information Booth in the center of the Festival. Next door, you'll find Leave N’ Retrieve, where, for a donation, we'll hold your packages all day. Much as we love animals, none are allowed at the Festival except seeing eye dogs. Thanks for your understanding.
This is a Festival for Kids Too! Free Babysitting (2 hrs per child) is available for kids, ages 1 through 3 in Room 11 on the Retreat House upper level. There is Hair Art, Face Painting, a Petting Zoo, Rides & Games. Don't miss the Climbing Wall.
Information and map with directions can be found on their web site:

To Bead True Blue
January 30th – February 4th 2007
10AM - 6PM Tuesday - Sunday
The Manning House - Redondo Pavilion
450 West Paseo Redondo
Tucson AZ 85701
To Bead True Blue assembles the finest artists, artisans, and merchants, together in an elegant forum that includes art jewelry, collectibles, textile art, artistic suppliers, direct importers, wearable art, artistic glass, fused glass, fine enameling techniques, clay arts, antiquities, lapidary, and interior décor. To Bead True Blue is a bead trade show, designed for and promoted to the hand made trades. This is important for the Attendee who wants to grow her customer base, and enhance her business and artistic image. If a bead is more than a perforated ornamental object, then a bead show should be a work of art.
The To Bead True Blue Exhibitors received an Invitation To Exhibit, after a lengthy search of hand made trades, and a careful selection based on high quality artisanship. With this common sense approach, we manage and promote a well-balanced show. This is significant to the Attendee who knows that the hand made trades are an expanding market, and prefers to go to one show and see the finest artisanship available.
Although To Bead True Blue is a bead trade show, in the spirit of inclusiveness, it is open to the public, and it is both wholesale and retail. Wholesale is the purchase of goods in some quantity, directly from the manufacturer or distributor, for the purpose of resale. Retail is the purchase of smaller quantities, not for resale. Artists-artisans do not consider themselves manufacturers, and they do not usually stock up enough products to sell in quantity, especially their best work. However, if your purchase is serious and you intend to be a steady client, most artists-artisans will work out a reasonable, special price.
The Manning House Estate is a 36,000 square foot Estate built in 1907 in Spanish Colonial style, and restored in 1997. The floor plan is arranged in three parts –Lavender Center, Morning Star, and Silverbell. The Manning House Estate is perfectly located and easy to get to, the first stop on the bead route, three blocks from the downtown Tucson shuttle hub. The exclusive True Blue shuttle arrives every 15 minutes. The Estate also has its own large and convenient parking lot, a full bar, and a gourmet restaurant.
Wholesale buyers, trade representatives, and other qualified buyers should have copies of (1) a resale license; (2) a business card; (3) a business license if applicable. If you plan to use a credit card for purchases, it is a good idea to call your card company ahead of time and let them know you will be having out-of-state charges. Although To Bead True Blue is a bead trade show, in the spirit of inclusiveness, it is open to the public, and it is both wholesale and retail. However, every Attendee is required to register, either on-line or in person at the show. If you pre-register, you may pick up your Attendee Badge, and walk in.
In handmade tradition, To Bead True Blue assembles the finest artists, artisans, and merchants, an elegant trade forum representing –art jewelry, collectibles, textile art, artistic suppliers, direct importers, wearable art, handmade artistic glass, fused glass, fine enameling techniques, clay arts, antiquities, lapidary art, and interior décor.
The Estate
The Manning House Estate has the comfort and atmósfera refinada of a vibrant turn of the century Spanish home. The 36,000 square foot Estate is an architectural tour de force, built in 1907 in Spanish Colonial style, and restored in 1997. The Estate’s heritage is la belle époque –“the beautiful time” when artists and artisans rediscovered their personal and interrelated ancestry of nature and dream. It is abundant in hand-painted tiles, oriental fabrics, murals, chandeliers, trompe l’oeil, crystal skylights, high-backed chairs, embroidered silk pillows, arched Palladian windows, Spanish doorways, marble embedded with gold, finely tooled wood trim, lavishly textured walls, and 5.5 acres of indigenous trees, plants and flower gardens. The Estate, listed in the National Register of Historic Places, has an essential place in Old Tucson Pueblo history.
Redondo Pavilion
Redondo Pavilion includes Shepherdess, The Legend Pole, designed and produced by Aztec Tents. It is made of heavy white canvas, with grand peaks along the ridge and solid cathedral window sides. Shepherdess is secured to withstand wind and rain. Garan-Beadagio decorators will recreate a traditional base camp, with tie down ropes and poles, bohemian-inspired interior furbished in rich tapestry rugs, Arabian linings, and silks hung from the ceiling. Along with fluorescent lighting, cathedral windows and double glass doors let in the desert sunshine. Shepherdess is located just off Mesquite Gardens, on the Manning House Estate grounds, with a paved walkway adjoining it to the Morning Star ballroom and the adjacent parking lot. The Shepherdess, enhanced by carpet, central heating, cooling, and 24-hour security, is a remarkable setting for trade.
